Russia Excluded by the United States from a Thirty-Nation Meeting on “Cybercrime”:
Senior officials in the American administration revealed that their country did not extend an invitation to Russia to attend the virtual meeting,
in which 30 countries are participating, and which addresses methods of combating the increasingly frequent security threats in recent times,
whether from ransomware or other cybercrimes in general — the meeting runs over two days,
the meeting includes six sessions on various topics, among them how to counter the misuse of virtual digital currency,
in laundering ransom payments through illegal means and cybercrimes, as well as pursuing ransomware criminals,
and using diplomacy to combat malware in general.

The official added: ” We hold regular discussions with Russia, but for this specific forum, they were simply not invited to participate“,
adding that this does not prevent Russia’s participation in other events in the near future,
The official also confirmed: that the United States is directly engaging with Russia on the issue of ransomware,
within a group of “US-Kremlin experts,“ led by the White House and established by President “Joe Biden” and Russian President “Vladimir Putin“.
The meeting also runs over two days and includes six sessions on various topics, among them countering the misuse of
virtual digital currency for illegal purposes such as laundering ransom payments, as well as discussing how to pursue ransomware criminals,
and how to use diplomacy to combat malware,
and helping countries become more resilient in the face of such attacks, according to the American administration official.
Alongside the United States, four countries including India, Australia, Germany, and the United Kingdom are leading
discussions on topics such as addressing disruption, virtual currency, and diplomacy,
other participating countries include Canada, France, Brazil, Mexico, Japan, Ukraine, Ireland, Israel, and South Africa,
in addition to the European Union,
Private-sector cybersecurity experts noted that many ransomware gangs operate
out of Ukraine and Russia, while some American officials and analysts say that Russian ransomware gangs
operate with tacit approval from the Kremlin, but are not under direct government control.
