YouTube Announces Enlisting Viewers to Promote Videos

YouTube Announces the Launch of a New Experience
YouTube has announced the launch of a new experience that allows viewers to promote video clips to help boost rankings. This experience is focused mainly on the Android app and generally does not affect the content recommendation algorithm.
Watch history and its patterns directly affect recommendations, and popular videos that large audiences love automatically appear on trending pages in the app or on the Explore page dedicated to discovering new content.
In this new experience, YouTube introduced a new option called “Hype” for a small number of eligible users, similar to the “Like” option available for videos. The Hype option allows viewers to increase the likelihood of a video appearing in the ranking alongside other promoted clips that week.
The Hype button appears to viewers who have access to this feature at the bottom of video clips, helping to boost content rankings on the Explore page.
Currently
This test is available to viewers in Brazil, Turkey, and Taiwan, where they can vote on content published by some YouTube Partner Program creators who have fewer than 500,000 subscribers each.
No plans have been announced yet to roll out this system widely. YouTube explains that the Hype system will not completely override the default algorithm, as viewers can only promote videos that were published within the past seven days.
In Addition
The voting effect helps the video achieve a higher ranking and reach additional viewers through the Explore page, independently of the ranked trending content section displayed by the algorithm. YouTube appears to aim at helping small content creators reach a higher ranking on the Explore page.
By encouraging users to promote videos, the platform can combat fraud and manipulation of view counts through suspicious means, and improve Explore page rankings.
It is worth noting that YouTube, which belongs to Google, worked hard during May and June to combat ad-blocking tools in free subscriptions and to fight discounted premium subscriptions, and conducted multiple experiments to rapidly showcase the future of the service to viewers.
